God's Provision

by Gene Easley

It isn't always easy to know when God is speaking to you or when it is just you.  Several years ago, we needed to take some time improving our Spanish and decided to attend a semester at a language school in southeast Texas.  The little monthly support we had coming in would buy no more than part of our food.  And we didn't have money for tuition and living expenses for the entire semester.

But we felt assured that the Lord was telling us to go.  So, with only enough to pay down on our tuition and a month or two of rent, we drove to McAllen, Texas.  We felt our classes demanded too much time to think about looking for part-time work; plus it would have defeated our purpose for being there if we were working and not having the time needed to study.

About the middle of the semester, we ran out of money.  Our next tuition bill was due in a few days.  Our rent was coming due, also.  Our food supply was practically gone, and we had no money to buy more.  Thank God that we have a Source that doesn't depend on our bank accounts!

We decided to set aside a day for fasting and prayer.  Our classes were on Tuesdays through Saturdays, and Sundays and Mondays we were free.  So that Monday we spent in fasting and prayer.  The human in us does not like these situations, but it is during these times that we really learn to trust God.

Two days after we had spent our time in prayer, we received a letter that was dated that Monday we were praying.  It had a check in it for more than enough to pay our tuition, our rent, and even money for food.  A note included read, "I just felt like the Lord was telling me to send this."  Praise the Lord!  Of course, you can imagine our joy.

God does provide!  We have learned that He can be trusted, and we can lean upon Him with all of our hearts.  These situations teach us that His promises are far more than words on a page.  They are as sure as tomorrow's sunrise!  Praise God!
