New Help for the Home for Abandoned Children
(See Home for Abandoned Children) This home in San Lucas, Guatemala, has received new help since the beginning of 2007. A congregation in California has been able to send significant financial help each month to Bro. and Sis. Victor Orantes and the Home for Abandoned Children to support the work. Presently, the home has three children in its care, with the hope of adding several more soon as the financial support comes in. It is a new home, built in 2005-06 and having received its first children in May, 2006. Bro. and Sis. Orantes' vision is to help some of the six to seven thousand children on the streets of Guatemala who are homeless and have no head of the household to provide for them or to guide them. The hardness of these children's lives resulted from the civil war and from the great poverty of Guatemalan daily life. The needs seem endless, but as Bro. Orantes said, "I believe, though it may be impossible to help everyone, we can at least help a few." Present
plans for the home are: 1. Raising the necessary monthly budget. 2. Providing a staff of two full-time workers. 3. Expediting legal processes for child placement. 4. Providing medical, nutritional, educational, and spiritual assistance. 5.
Placing at least five additional children this year. Present
needs include: 1. Monthly budget ($1,350). 2. Payment of land debt (approximately $9,000). 3. A minibus ($9 - $15,000). 4. Playground and fence ($2,100). (These funds have been provided and Bro. Orantes has been able to build the playground. Thank God for the one who heard of this need and responded with a generous gift to supply the $2,100.) If you would like to be a part of this work, please contact us and we will let you know how you can assist. If you have a burden for the work of God and/or a burden for abandoned children, then you may want to consider making a trip to Guatemala to visit Victor and Thelma Orantes at the Children's Home. I do not believe you would be disappointed, and it would probably be a life-changing event!
