STANDING IN THE GAP (continued) by Gene Easley The walls of faith, the walls of holiness, the walls of grace--they are fallen, and we are overrun by the enemy. We need someone to stand in the gap. Give us intercessors who won't turn loose of God and won't turn loose of a backslidden church until they see revival. Ezekiel told the story of an unprofitable search made by God Himself (Ezekiel 22:30). God was looking for someone who would fill up the gap in a broken down hedge. The end result of His search is almost too sad to tell. God found no one willing to be an intercessor, no one willing to take the lead on a road back to God. It is no easy assignment for which to volunteer. When the walls are fallen, and the gates are burned with fire, most people keep looking for an easier call. Too many preachers are worried about the salary and concerned about the side benefits. Too few are burdened about the condition of the church, and too few are willing to put souls as top priority. Too many sitting in the pews are caught-up in the coming social events. They are too satisfied with life to be able to see the empty altars. They are having too many good times to be concerned about which direction the church is going. Give us intercessors or we die! Give us someone to stand in the gap or we will sit in the rubbish--a reproach to God and His work! Will there be a last day Finney or Wesley, whose hearts longed for revival more than their daily provisions? If not, we will perish! Moses was pastoring a backslidden church when God told him to step aside and He would destroy the whole congregation. Moses saw the great gap between God and His people. He reached out one hand and took a hold on God, and with the other hand he grabbed fallen Israel. Then he prayed as few intercessors have prayed, offering his own life, having his own name erased from God's eternal book; but Israel must be spared! Do we want revival? Step one is the appearance of an intercessor. Who will it be? Will it be you? Will it be me? Someone must stand in the gap!
