Fundamentals of Faith

1.  The Scriptures, both Old and New Testaments, are the verbally inspired,

     infallible Word of God.

  • “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness” (2 Timothy 3:16).

2.  There is one God manifested in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

  • "The Lord our God is one Lord" (Deuteronomy 6:4).

  • "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost" (Matthew 28:19).

3.  Man was created perfect in the Garden of Eden but fell from grace.

  • "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness" (Genesis 1:26).

  • “Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned” (Romans 5:12).

4.  Christ is the eternal Son of God.

  • "Behold a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us” (Matthew 1:23).

5.  The Redeemer was prepared from the foundation of the world.

  • “…the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world” (Rev. 13:8b).

  • "Father, I will that they also, whom thou has given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou has given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world." (John 17:24)

6.  All humans have sinned and are in need of redemption.

  • "There is none righteous, no not one" (Romans 3:10).

  • "For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23).

7.  God provided redemption and eternal life for all sinners.

  • "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 6:23).

8.  Sinners can be saved through faith and repentance by confessing Jesus as

     Lord.

  • "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation" (Romans 10:9-10).

9.  All believers are called to receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit and fire.

  • "…tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem until ye be endued with power from on high" (Luke 24:49).

  • "But ye shall receive power after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you" (Acts 1:8).

  • “And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.  And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.  And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.  And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance” (Acts 2:1-4).

10.  Two ordinances of the church are water baptism and the Lord's Supper.

  • “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen” (Matthew 28:19-20).

  • "And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me.  After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me" (I Corinthians 11:24-25).

11.  Divine healing is provided in the atonement of Christ.

  • “That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses” (Matthew 8:17).

  • "And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover" (Mark 16:17-18).

12.  The Church is now awaiting the glorious rapture, the "catching away" of the

saints, to be forever with the Lord.

  • "For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord" (1 Thes. 4:16-17).

13.  The Lord Jesus Christ shall return in bodily form to the earth in a second

       coming.

  • "Then shall the Lord go forth, and fight against those nations, as when he fought in the day of battle.  And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south" (Zechariah 14:3-4).

14.  The Lord Jesus Christ shall return to earth for the millennial reign of Christ,

and His saints shall return with him to reign for a thousand years.

  • "Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years" (Rev. 20:6).
